About MotorolaMotorola, the name first articulated for a car radio is now best known for Mobile phones. Incorporated in 1928, Motorola today is among America’s fortune 100 list and world renowned mobile phone manufacturer. For those who don’t know Motorola beyond mobile phones, it was the first to develop a real global communication network consisting of a set of 66 satellites. The company is playing big at third position after its big hit RAZR line of mobile phones.
Motorola’s product domain includes mobile phones, satellite phones, embedded systems, microprocessors, two-way radios and networking Systems. Apart from this it also builds private networks and safety communications systems for government bodies. Talking about its range of mobile phones, it includes the A-series, the Moto series, RAZR series, ROKR, SLVR, W series and Z series. RAZR series as we all know has been a great hit. But after its RAZR series in 2005 the company has not offered anything catchy and is also facing downside since then. I think it just needs to give equal emphasis on both consumer and business offerings being a multi-domain company. On one hand where the mobile phone segment is going chaos the company is doing well with its channel partnership.
With its fingers crossed Motorola is hoping for bit of luck coming its way and launching few handsets in year 2009. Amongst it are MOTOROKR EM35, MOTO VE66, and MOTOSURF A3000. All three are high end feature packed phones shelved high on style and innovative design. Motorola’s makeup this time is fresh and youthful targeting music lovers, who love to listen, share and keep music. Apart from this it’s even targeting active all-rounders on their quest to make most of their time. The handsets lace office applications and committed features such as pre-installed and downloadable “widgets” (facilitating the access to real-time information such as weather, device status, RSS reader and more) to support the same.
Motorola’s market competition includes Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Nokia and Samsung grip on tight at first and second position respectively. Motorola was enjoying the third position in 2005 but the fading of RAZR fame it has dropped down and the place has been taken by Sony Ericsson and LG in 2008. Let’s see how good Moto goes in 2009 with its new phones out. If these do as good as RAZR series there are fare chances that it might get its old position back.
